[FASHION] Beautifully made resort wear sandals by George Blue

It isn't often that I come across a company that offers a very simple product, but produces it in the highest of quality (especially in Asia where cheap mass production is the done thing), so when I do it is kind of a big deal.

I was recently introduced to George Blue, a new footwear brand offering skilfully made leather sandals all hand finished in Italy. Tired of seeing women pair scruffy flip-flops with either casual or work attire and with Singapore's climate in mind, fashion entrepreneur and brand founder Rebecca Walters decided she wanted to offer a stylish and more refined version of the classic sandal shape.

After searching around unsuccessfully in Asia but making some good connections, she followed a lead and went on a personal sourcing trip to Tuscany to find the best shoemakers for the job. Rebecca got very lucky indeed, and managed to find a small family-owned workshop with sandals being hand made in top quality leather materials for many luxury brand names. They liked her designs and agreed to take on her project, and the rest is history.

George Blue has brought out two collections so far. The Launch Collection showcased a classic caramel/tan coloured sole with various colour ways for casual luxe. Their new Exotic Collection features CITES certified animal skins and thanks to their chic (and very wearable) black sole, can be easily dressed up or down.

Pictured here are the Ocean Python sandals which feature a midnight blue python skin - they are also available in a classic bold python colour. Other skins in the range include black calf hair and glazed bordo croc skin, as well as animal-embossed leathers such as iguazu lizard.

Overall, the sandals would be a good choice for women who appreciate lasting artisan quality, attention to detail and impeccable craftsmanship - oh, and not to mention the beautiful packaging (very Net-a-porter). Finally, for every pair of sandals purchased, money is donated to Maloto, a US-based charity dedicated to providing support programmes to the community in Malawi.
